Texas Vignette

Humans have been making ceremonial objects since the beginning of time. I imagine them looking across the ocean and up into the heavens, contemplating the unknown. I feel connected to a stream of spiritual and cultural history as I ponder and grapple with my own spiritual questions. This inspires me to create objects and images that transform mystery into poetic form.

Art is a way of participating in history by making the intangible visible.

Vessels and text allude to the spiritual aspects of experience and are inspired by the psalms and sacred literature.

In Bowl of Prayers, photo transfers from the Psalms were hand rubbed and transferred onto encaustic surfaces. The laborious and repetitive process became its own meditative experience as space was created to think, pray and be still while working on this piece.

Each iteration of Bowl of Prayers reflects the scale and site of the architectural space, the elements are arranged to reflect the space giving new shape to each installation.

The individual wing elements are hung on wire supports designed to allow them to pivot. Air flow, causes slight subtle, kinetic movement, reminiscent of slight trembling.
